I have found that I’m more of a process than a result person because I’ve realized that the gems lie in the process. What I intend to do with my writing on this series is to capture my learnings and growth curves, which equates the process and not just show that I’m suddenly a first-class female leader five years later, but to document along the way as I emerge.
So right into today’s topic, I discovered something no one told me about leading; whether by influence, position, or management. I mean, maybe they told other people or wrote them in the greatest books on leadership, and I just never got around to reading them, but I have discovered that it’s not charisma first that you need, it’s a certain strength called mental strength.

See, you can appeal to people’s sentiments all you want, be charming or charismatic, or you may even be like the naturally wired me: result-driven, principled, and kind, but with little bother for charm or charisma. The truth remains that you need a high dose of mental strength and real steel in your inner man.
Whether it’s leading in a spiritual or secular setting – it’s really not about the type of setting, but it’s a generally needed skill because even if you are leading the right minds, life and nature come with their unique challenges, it is just easier for you to lead and navigate with the right team members.
However, if you then have to juggle life’s amazing twists and turns with leading a non-committal or incapacitated team, it’s tougher, the mental resilience you’d need to have or build will be higher.
Now, you may have some of this inner mental strength within and you would only need to improve on it. But, guess what? There’s nothing like too much mental strength, inner steel, or resilience. Keep growing your mental strength in and through challenges, mentorship, reading books etc.
From, me to you, cheers to growing and grooming steel; real hard-core steel on the inside, as we navigate leading, in tough times and in sweet times too🥂
