Hello 2025! Who am I? (Aaron, Hur or Moses?)

You need to start 2025 by asking yourself a question, and it’s a question of identity first. But the more important question would be, what’s my assignment? What are the things that call to me or define me, especially in this season of my life? Am I an Aaron, Hur or a Moses? Am I a Simi Afilaka or a Sir Fela Durotoye? ( Simi Afilaka was Sir Fela Durotoye’s personal/executive assistant at Gemstone for some time before becoming Gemstone’s COO while currently being the chief of staff to Sir FD)

Aaron and Hur are two men mentioned in the bible in Exodus 17:12 who had to serve the leader of Isreal at that point i.e. Moses and in a particular battle, it was recorded in the bible that the Israelites would only win as long as Moses’ hands were held up. Still, even strong men would get tired and then comes Aaron and Hur, it’s notable to mention that they already went with Moses to the top of the hill where he was observing the battle and raising his hands so they were already worthy servants standing with a leader. When Moses started to grow weak, they decided to make their leader’s job easier by providing a stone to sit on and then proceeded to support and steady his hands, and eventually, their nation won the battle. These men served in the background, now most people will remember the story as Moses had to raise his hands for the battle to be won and I’d like to think that the Israelites knew when they were at war that Moses’ hands were their winning strategy, I bet none of the fighting Israelites knew Aaron and Hur were supporting Moses until most likely after the battle.

You see, in life, you have to be very comfortable and confident in being an Aaron or a Hur, preferably we must be careful not to tilt towards when Aaron started to exalt himself and his position and was conniving with Miriam by implying that they could also be Israel’s leader as God communicated to them directly too.  You may eventually become a ‘Moses’ i.e. a leader in the forefront as we see that the levitical order of priesthood was forever from Aaron’s descendants and he was also the first priest from that order sometimes referred to as the order of Aaron. But first, have you settled your heart and identified with being an ‘Aaron’ or ‘Hur’ without necessarily pursuing being a ‘Moses’

The most important thing I’d like you to take away from this article is that as you set goals and make commitments and aspirations for the year 2025, and even the years ahead, based on where you have identified you are to play or how to play, ambition is okay but then again, if you are called to be an Aaron and a Hur and never a Moses, then you are most likely chasing an endless ambition. Of course, if seasons change and you are to be a leader at the forefront of a particular season, be prepared!
