When teachers, preachers, pastors, and people who understand the mind, and are spiritual, tell us to be careful about the content we feed on, we sometimes think they are exaggerating. They aren’t, I can say to you for free!
There is something called a frame of reference, and if your frame of reference is all messed up or wrong, it will affect your perspective, but more importantly, if you are a believer, there is nothing the Holy Spirit would be able to brood on or weave together to give clear insights to your mind.
Caveat: This article is for the ecclesia, if you are a part of us, read this with intention, if you aren’t, we are happy to welcome you to the body of Christ!

Moving forward, let me explain what I mean in my second paragraph above with a story; my story. I was in a friend’s car sometime in April and she said ‘Please search for Victoria Orenze’s Standing Gidigba and play it for me’. She was driving us, so I was acting DJ while she maneuvered the steering. I remember thinking to myself “This my friend (let’s call her ‘Ms D’) and Minister Orenze, which one is ‘standing gidigba’ again? So there is something like that?” However, I didn’t give much thought to it because I had more important things to do, like making an official call.
A few days later, in that same week, a younger friend of mine, let’s call him ‘MK’ posted the same song on his WhatsApp status and my thoughts were as expected ‘Ahn ahn, this song again, the one Ms D said I should help her play the other day, na so the song peng reach ni?” Again, of course, I was just passing by on WhatsApp status, so I moved on. Guess what? That piece of information about the existence of a song called ‘Standing Gidigba’ by Victoria Orenze had been filed somewhere in my mind’s archive! But guess what again? Seeing my younger friend’s status reinforced the awareness of the existence of the track, herein lies the power of repetition to birth reinforcement.

Now, let’s get to the meat of this article which birthed the title. On a Saturday 3 weeks or more later, The Holy Spirit (THS) and I were having a tête-à-tête during some journaling and reflection moment and He was expounding a certain truth in me from the lyrics of the song ‘All Things are Possible’ by Hillsong Worship, which is about really holding firm to Jesus, the faith life in Christ, and not being shaken. While writing, I then wrote ‘We stand gidigba’, the next thought that came was “Tolu, that’s your cue to go and listen to that Standing Gidigba song by Victoria Orenze, let’s see if it ties to these things THS is saying to me!”
Brethren, I listened to the song more than once on that same day and on one of the occasions of listening I had such a prophetic Holy Ghost moment!!! I would like to believe that without me saying too much, you already understand what ‘frame of reference’ means. God’s Spirit had something filed and stored in my mind to pick on and seal the work He was doing in me. He also had the information filed in my mind to confirm and seal the revelation knowledge He was pouring into me!

But, moving outside the theme of this article, what content do you consume? In this media-driven world, what content do you interact with? I can tell you for free that I had certain contacts’ status updates muted on my WhatsApp, because, see no evil, and hear no evil. Also, by default, my Instagram has the sound icon on posts muted because I want to be sure, that the audio is something my soul can absorb. I am not saying I only do spiritual content or I haven’t viewed something that wouldn’t help my mind either by accident or just lazying around social media or someone shared something funny, I mean I watch funny content a lot, my favorite is Layi Wasabi, but what I am saying explicitly is that I am pretty intentional about the content I consume on the streets of social media!

Another subtle lesson I picked from this experience is the power of the type of people you have around you, on your contact list, in your sphere of influence, etc. Take a moment to imagine; if all Ms D and MK listened to was Shallypopi, Asake, or Arrya Star, and they always posted these songs, do you think I would have that information on Victoria Orenze’s song archived somewhere and THS would have something to reference?
Selah.
Being intentional about the contents that drive your thought process is a flex. Many do not know what level of influence these things could have on them until they begin to manifest positive or negative.
Really inspiring
